According to the National Complete Streets Coalition, the New York City metropolitan area is more dangerous for walkers than Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose and Miami; these large metropolitan areas round out the top five most deadly metros for pedestrians in the U.S.
It is worth noting that while the New York City metropolitan area topped the list of most deadly large metros for pedestrians, New York City did not make the top ten list of most deadly cities for pedestrians in America. Those “honors” went to: Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Miami, Memphis, Birmingham, Houston, Atlanta, Phoenix and Charlotte.
New York City may not be the most dangerous city in America for pedestrians, but it is part of the most deadly metropolitan area for these travelers. As a result, it is critical that both motorists and pedestrians take great care when traveling around New York. Failure to remain attentive on both the road and the sidewalk can result in disastrous consequences.
If you have tragically lost a loved one in a fatal pedestrian accident, please understand that you are not alone. Please contact an experienced personal injury attorney if you have any questions about your legal options.
